This design collection took graphic motifs found in Mogao Grottoes in Dun Huang. Dated from the 5th to the 14th century, this World Heritage Site locates on the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road, it is one of the most splendid cultural heritages China. We focus primarily on decoration details inside the grottoes, after the motif was selected, most of design efforts went into structuring the composition to establish singular and combined visual effect; while each one has to look completed and visually balanced by itself, when they are put together, a larger pattern can be revealed by the they rotate, mirror and repeat one another. The carefully calculated design for each pattern makes it possible to compose more than 3 kinds of field installation.
